Choosing Fragrance Oils for your Soy Candles
Soy candle makers are continually looking to get the best scent throw they can from their soy candles, so fragrance plays a major role in soy candle making. There are many different fragrances and suppliers of fragrance oils and it can be tough trying to find scents that throw really well in soy wax and who carries the best fragrances.
Hot scent throw is what every candle maker strives for. A candle can have an awesome cold throw, but then when you burn it for awhile it may do poorly with the hot throw.
This is why it's so important to buy the right fragrance oils. There's nothing worse than spending a bunch of money on candle fragrance oils and then finding out they do not have a good hot scent throw!
It is best to buy fragrance oils that are made specifically for soy wax or have been known to throw nice and strong in soy because not all fragrance oils work well with soy.
Below is a list of fragrance oils from several suppliers that I have tested and have had good hot throw in soy candles. I have used and recommend these oils. A lot of fragrance oil suppliers have 1oz samples you can try and it's smart to start out with those in order to test without spending too much before buying in bulk.
And remember, just because a fragrance oil from one company throws awesome, that does not mean the same fragrance from a different company will do the same! Oils will vary from company to company (though some may use the same manufacturer, so might have some of the same fragrances).
When I was looking for the best coffee fragrance oil, I purchased samples from four different suppliers and they all smelled different. The coffee fragrance from Candlesoylutions is the one I ended up going with because I thought it smelled the most true to black coffee. (I use the maximum amount since coffee fragrances don't have as strong of a scent throw)
